Nosocomial Infection Control Program

Innovative Decon Solutions has been involved in facility and building decontamination for over a decade. Utilizing highly efficacious chemistries that can be safely applied in indoor environments, our periodic treatment process is economical and proven highly effective. IDS utilizes a suite of technologies that features the safest and most advanced technologies available to control the vectors of contamination.. Prior case studies in off-shore oil rigs have shown a significant reduction in infections and spread of MRSA. The following is a summary of our treatment process:

Sterilization and Disinfection. IDS sets new industry standards by utilizing broad-spectrum sporicidal chemistries that are EPA registered. A paradigm shift in sterilization and disinfection, our treatment process is non-fuming, non-corrosive and quickly destroys virulent endospores including Clostridium difficile, C. sporogenes and B. subtilis.
Our process effectively destroys Mycobacterium bovis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Salmonella typhimrium, Acinetobacter baumannii, Vibrio cholera, Campylobacter jejuni, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Listeria monocytogenes, Enterococcus faecalis – Vancomycin resistant (VRE) Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA ATC 33592 and CA-MRSA), Streptococcus pyogenes. It is highly virucidal against Avian Influenza, Human Coronavirus, Adenovirus, herpes Simples Virus Type I and II, HIV, Influenza A & B, Avian Influenza Virus H5N1, Norovirus, Poliovirus type-1, Reovirus, Respiratory Syncytial virus, Rhinovirus and Rotavirus. In addition, it kills mold and fungi and is suitable for food contact surface sanitization with dwell times of only 30 seconds. With a health rating of ‘0’, IDS’s treatment is accomplished quickly and safely throughout a facility to disinfect patient care surfaces without toxic fumes or liquids. The product represents a technological paradigm shift in infection control technology, delivering unsurpassed sporicidal and broad-spectrum kill against the most difficult microorganisms in just minutes without the harmful contraindications associated with competing disinfectant/sterilant products.

IDS trained professionals deliver the product utilizing specialized application equipment combined with a unique wetting agent to prevent product evaporation, to assure adequate dwell time and confirmed microbial kill.

Ionizing Technology – IDS’s protocols include the application of the sterilants via specialized electrostatic devices. This methodology assures the optimal means of delivering the chemistries comprehensively to surfaces. The heart of the air-assisted electrostatic sprayer is the patented MaxCharge™ “air-atomizing induction-charging” nozzle, which was invented at the University of Georgia. IDS employs the principals of physics to achieve better coverage and lessen the environmental impact with the usage of smaller amounts of chemicals. In addition, our units use air-assistance to help with spray delivery. Air is necessary in electrostatic spraying to create tiny droplets 900 times smaller than conventional sprayers that travel in the turbulent airstream into dense areas.

Air and liquid enter the rear of the nozzle separately. The air moves through the nozzle under pressure and meets the liquid at the nozzle tip, causing the formation of spray droplets that are 30 to 60 microns in diameter. At the tip of the nozzle is a tiny electrode which applies an electrical charge to the spray. The electrical charging causes a natural force of attraction between the spray droplets and target surface, similar to the attraction between items of clothing created by the tumbling of a clothes dryer. The attraction to the target’s surfaces relates to Coulomb’s Law, which states that any two charged objects will create a force on each other. The charge on the droplets, though small, pulls the spray towards the target at 75 times the force of gravity. The spray droplets can reverse direction, moving against gravity, to coat all sides of an object. This application methodology cannot be replicated manually.

Residual Protection – RemedialConC©

Utilizing patented and EPA registered bacteriostatic chemistry that incorporates 3-Trimethoxy silyl propyl dimethyl octadecyl ammonium chloride, IDS’ final treatment step is the application of a surface treatment that is a proven inhibitor of bacteria. Independent lab testing has shown that MRSA did not regrow on treated surfaces up to 90 days. RemedialConC is an environmentally friendly antimicrobial with no heavy metals, arsenic, tin or polychlorinated phenols. This product addresses the two main ecological concerns associated with leaching antimicrobials: bleeding harmful toxins into the environment and the generation of adaptive organisms (super bugs). Because of its unique mode of action and inability to migrate from a treated surface, the application of RemedialConC effectively controls contamination and regrowth of organisms.

HVAC and BioFilm Treatment

IDS utilizes EPA registered disinfectants for specialized treatment of HVAC vents and ducts and drains and sinks. Pathogenic organisms often go undetected in these hard to reach areas that are rarely cleaned or are not effectively disinfected. Our treatment methods are designed to comprehensively decontaminate all potential vectors of transmission.

Laundry Treatment

IDS has designed a laundry supplement that incorporates bacteriostatic effect into fabrics. Studies have shown that hospital linens, sheets and clothing can retain bacteria even after normal laundry. Independent testing has shown that the formula is effective against pathogenic organisms and imparts an antimicrobial protection into the fabrics themselves. With repeated treatment, the fabric will retain even greater inhibition. This treatment is also a valuable element of the overall IDS vector containment program.

RemedialCleanse Hand Sanitizer

Our Instant Foam Hand Sanitizer is a unique patented formulation featuring exceptional skin feel, conditioning and moisturizing properties. The efficacy of this product has been confirmed to reduce S. aureus 99.9999% in as little as 15 seconds and most germs up to 99.9999% including MRSA and E. coli. RemedialCleanse Instant Foam Hand Sanitizer is in compliance with the FDA Final Tentative Monograph for OTC Hand Sanitizer preparations (“leave-on” sanitizers not requiring a rinse), RemedialCleanse is based on an alcohol-free antimicrobial compound that has been widely used in the health care industry for more than 60 years. It is used in formulas for preservatives, surface cleaners, sterilizing agents, and “leave-on” FDA Monograph anti-bacterial skin treatment products. Its active ingredient is effective against a wide range of pathogenic bacteria.

Proven Effectiveness – Non-alcohol based leave-on Hand Sanitizers have demonstrated efficacy in real-world environments. When evaluated in Elementary School environments, where the importance of proper hygiene practices including hand washing is taught and emphasized, the use of non-alcohol “leave-on” instant hand sanitizers reduced illness absenteeism 30-40%. The data was obtained in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies versus hand washing alone.

Kliebsella pneumonia NDM-1 “Superstrain”

This in one of the first products of its kind to demonstrate efficacy against Kliebsella pneumonia NDM-1 positive, an emerging drug-resistant pathogen the carries the New Delhi metallobeta lactamase (NDM-1) enzyme which make it resistant to a broad range of antibiotics. This pathogen is of great concern in clinical settings such as hospitals or long-term care facilities due to its ability to spread from one strain of bacteria to another by horizontal gene transfer via plasmids. Independent test results confirm 5-log reduction at 15, 30 and 60 seconds (99.9999%) against Kliebsella Pneumoniae NDM-1 positive (CDC 1000257). Daily use products such as RemedialCleanse can play an important role against these types of “Superbugs”.

What are the advantages of RemedialCleanse? RemedialCleanse is non-flammable, non-damaging to skin, persistent in providing residual protection and will not stain clothing or flooring. Flash fires associated with use of alcohol-based hand hygiene products can have potentially severe consequences for health care workers and their patients. A published example reported an incidence of flash fire associated with the use of an alcohol-based hand antiseptic agent. The fire occurred when a spark of static electricity ignited the alcohol-based hand gel on the hand of a health care worker who had just removed a 100% polyester gown. The health care worker put the pre-measured amount of alcohol-based hand gel in the palm of her hand from a wall-mounted dispenser. She then removed the 100% polyester gown, placed it on a metal surface, and began rubbing the gel onto both hands. While her hands were damp, she pulled open a metal sliding door, heard an audible static spark, saw a flash of light, and experienced spontaneous flames on the palm of one hand. After the incident, the palm showed redness but no blisters. Flames singed the hair on her arm.

Virucidal Efficacy (Influenza A H1N1, Swine Flu, Mexican Flu) – International Markets – It is known that enveloped viruses such as Influenza A are easily inactivated by benzalkonium chloride, the active ingredient in RemedialCleanse. The active ingredient is effective at inactivating Influenza A virus, based on hard surface disinfectant data, at concentrations of 0.03-0.05%. By comparison, RemedialCleanse contains 1,300 ppm active ingredient – 2 to 3 times higher than required for disinfectant activity against Influenza viruses. In the United States, the FDA doesn’t allow virucidal claims under the Topical Antimicrobials monograph for any Hand Sanitizer products. Note that for the same FDA claim of “reduces bacteria on the skin,” alcohol-based products require 62% alcohol, where RemedialCleanse requires only 0.1% active ingredient.

The IDS Program Summary

The IDS nosocomial infection control plan is based upon the following plan:
